LA makeup artist

I am beyond excited and happy to be the first place winner of IMATS ( International Makeup Artist Trade Show) LA makeup artist Battle of the Brushes Beauty/Fantasy category. It feels so great to be the best LA makeup artist! So, I decided to share with you my success story and hopefully to inspire you to participate in the show next or the following years.

I was attending Cinema Makeup School and they chose me to represent them at the IMATS competition. Nelly Recchia and Leonard Engelman were my wonderful mentors, who thought me many new things. I was really honored to represent the school and could not anticipate show my skills.

So, 2016 Makeup artist contest theme was Circus/ Carnival. I wanted to create something sexy, eye catchy and impressive. After a lot of sketching and brainstorming I came up with the idea to create a ring master. My mentors loved my first sketches and initial makeup test. They advised me to be more brave with colors.

When I found this fabulous model, Nicole Whittaker, the complete look came together naturally. Nicole is a natural red head with a a wonderful personality. She was a perfect fit and match, so I am beyond thankful for her for her patience and hard work.

A moth before the contest I ordered a corset, trim, hat, small details. I sew and created golden pieces on the corset and as well on the hat.

When I was brainstorming about the ring masters look, I just knew that I will do hand drawing. As La makeup artist I wanted to show my fine artist skills and I think it worked perfectly. I used all the techniques: airbrush, blending and free hand drawing.

I feel really blessed to be a part of this contest. It gave me a lot of confidence that I can achieve greater things in my life. I believe, just to participate in IMATS competition, it is already a winning and big honor for me or any other LA makeup artist.

I am excited and look forward to create many more avant-garde/ beauty/ fantasy look. This is my true passion and journey of my life.

Here are my sketches and few photos.

Host Academy Governor Leonard Engelman presents three nominated teams from movies:

The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared

The Revenant

Oscar week Makeup and hairstylist symposium MAD Max spf

Mad Max: Fury Road makeup and hair team sharing their experience how they created texture on actors bodies.

They used a lot of clay and airbrush. The movie was filmed in Australia and Africa. For this movie there were recruited a lot of different kind of artists who have never done makeup before in their life. There were a crew of 45 makeup and hair artists working on Mad Max!

The look created for a war boy. Everyday they had to create and use new appliances.

My favorite question was, what kind of silver spray they used to spray their mouths. The answer is a silver edible cake spray.

Oscar week Makeup and hairstylist symposium the 100 year old man

The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared. Prosthetic makeup designers are Love Larson and Eva von Bahr, an awesome team from Sweden. It was so interesting to learn how they made main actor look younger and later to an older. Eva told that they used a miracle serum, which is now highly shared on google and you tube, where all your wrinkles disappear in 5 minutes. It really works! But unfortunately, she said that it lasts only two hours. Her advice was this “if you want to try it, then you need to change the party every two hours”. The crowd was laughing!

Oscar week Makeup and hairstylist symposium the revenant Leonard Di Caprio

The Revenant with Leonard DiCaprio. This movie has 12 nominations!

Makeup and hair crew: Sian Grigg, Duncan Jarman and Robert Pandini.

Makeup artist had to work with indians in order to crate a face painting for the actor indians in the movie.  Their face paintings have a meanings and symbols, that were created according native indian traditions.

It was interesting to hear how they created Leonardo makeup and frozen beard look. You won’t believe! To create a frozen eyelashes artist used sugar and water and for beard paraffin from candles. It took a lot of time to remove sugar from his eyelashes. Leonard Engelman said that it is hard to make actor look realistically dirty. Sian said that she used 4 kind of medium to get the dirt. Two for body, oilier one for neck and dryer one for face.

These people are all the makeup and hairstyling nominees for the Oscars 2016. It must be so exciting for them !

They are all winners. These artists gave all their hearts and worked hard to make it happen.

<3 My favorite though is makeup and hairstyling of Mad Max. I hope this team will be the one to get an oscar.
